Joe Riedy (he/him)
Assistant Professor
I earned my BS degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University in
Fisheries and Wildlife and my PhD from MSU in Integrative Biology and Ecology, Evolution,
and Behavior. My PhD research focused on identifying ecological factors that influence
survival in larval lake sturgeon, a threatened fish species in the Great Lakes.
My favorite aspect of my position as the coordinator of organismal and population
biology lab is working together with people with different backgrounds and experiences
to continuously update our course to keep it engaging and interesting to our students,
while also using latest methods and techniques. I especially enjoy developing new
lab research projects with other faculty and graduate students teaching BS172 with
me. Other than teaching this course, I have also taught Statistical Methods in Ecology
and Evolution, a graduate course focusing on using R to analyze data, and continue
to be involved in aquatic ecology research.
Outside of work, I enjoy birding, rock collecting, camping in northern Michigan.
