Course Description:
This course is an introduction to modern cellular and molecular biology. Topics include
cellular structures and functions; the composition and synthesis of biological macromolecules;
the cellular generation and use of energy; and the replication, transmission and expression
of genetic information. Examples will be taken from a variety of organisms ranging
from viruses to humans. Our primary goal is to guide you to acknowledge and appreciation
of basic cellular and molecular structures and processes that will assist you in
future advanced courses and in understanding and self-directed study of biological,
biomedical, and biotechnological issues.
