Course Description
The goal of this course is to build foundational understanding of cellular organization
and major cellular processes such as gene expression and regulation, metabolism, and
cell division. Students will demonstrate this understanding through creating models
and scientific arguments, while also learning the vocabulary needed to discuss the
concepts with others and deepen understanding for future courses.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
1. Develop models of major cellular structures, including molecular-level detail
2. Describe major cellular processes for maintenance and growth, including molecular-level
detail
3. Describe how cellular structures and processes are connected or related
4. Use models to predict how cellular structures and processes are affected by mutations
or chemicals
5. Use biological data and principles to construct scientific arguments
6. Accurately use course vocabulary in models, explanations, and scientific arguments
7. Develop organizational and teamwork skills to complete assignments fully and on-time
