I recently moved to Michigan and have been welcomed into the BioSci community. This
is probably the most supportive, organized and aligned department I've worked in which
translates into being able to focus more time on things that will directly benefit
students. I am currently teaching BS 172. Prior to this, I lived in Arizona for 20
years and enjoyed teaching introductory level biology courses and engaged students
with a variety of community based research projects integrated into the curriculum.
Research projects that looked at the connection between urbanization and our natural
resources or human health were the most engaging to students and the most fun to do.
Originally, I wanted to be a conservation biologist and got a B.S. in Wildlife Science from Auburn University. I worked as a research tech and then lab manager in several labs conducting field and lab research. However, I started to miss working directly with people and decided teaching science would be a better long term career for me and returned to school for a M.Ed. in Secondary Science Education.
Personally, I love hiking around Michigan and exploring new towns with my husband and my cattle dog, Flash. I also travel back to Arizona frequently to visit my 3 children who are all in college or vet school there, but I'm not so secretly hoping that they will want to follow us to Michigan once they finish their programs.
